The Curious Case of the E Visa:

How Diplomacy and Immigration Law Intersect to Promote Trade and Investment in the United States

The purpose of the E1/E2 Treaty Trader/Investor visa is to promote bilateral trade and investment between the US and countries which which it has ratified treaties of trade and commerce.  This article explores the differences between treaty trader and treaty investors,  the extraordinary authority vested in consular officers to approve or deny E visa applications, how some of the busiest E visa units operate, and strategies for achieving successful E visa applications.
