Steve Pattison is an attorney and nationally recognized expert in US immigration law, Department of State policy and procedures, and consular operations. A summa cum laude graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas (1975) and the University of Texas Law School in Austin (1978) Steve practiced corporate litigation with the Houston firm Dyche and Wright before moving to Washington DC to join the US Foreign Service in 1979.
Steve had a distinguished twenty eight year career with the State Department, serving as a consular officer and manager in postings in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, and in Washington in the Visa Office and the Bureaus of Near Eastern and Inter-American Affairs. In 2007, after retiring as a member of the Senior Foreign Service from his final posting as Minister-Counselor for Consular Affairs in Berlin, he relocated to London, where he joined the firm Magrath and Co. and managed the firm’s U.S. immigration law practice. In 2010 Steve returned to Washington D.C. where he practiced US business immigration law with the firm Maggio and Kattar, PC until opening the Law Offices of Stephen R. Pattison, LLC in June 2014. In June of 2017, he moved his practice to Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Steve is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the American Bar Association. He is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and a founding member of AILA’s Rome District Chapter, where he has served as Treasurer, Secretary, Vice Chair, and Chair, and also is a member of AILA’s Business Immigration Committee.
He speaks frequently in AILA regional, national and international conferences, podcasts, and seminars, has taught courses on immigration law for the D.C. Bar, and published in the professional legal press in the U.S. and in the U.K.
